Earth-Moving
Mini-excavator
Yanmar’s Vi017 offers true
zero-tail-swing and an operating weight of 3,836 pounds. A new
three-pump hydraulics system provides smooth operation even while using
both the boom and arm during turning and precise close work, and
replaces the previous model Vi015’s two-pump system. The digging depth
is 7 feet, 7 inches, and the horsepower has been upped to 13.5 from the
previous model at 11.9. Variable tracks allow narrow access at 3 feet, 1
inch, and then expand to 3 feet, 11 inches for more stable operation.

Wheel
loader
Case Construction Equipment
introduces the 721E wheel loader, which features enhanced operator
comfort, Tier 3-certified power, and improved maintainability and
serviceability, including ground-line service checks. The 721E wheel
loader is powered by a fully electronic 6.7-liter Tier-3 Case engine
that produces 183 net hp. The machine has an operating weight of 30,644
pounds and a bucket capacity of 3.01 cubic yards. The engine allows
operators to match power and fuel economy to their application by
choosing between three power curves (max, standard and economy power),
and four work modes (max, standard, economy and auto). In auto mode, the
electronically controlled engine adjusts between power curves to move
the maximum amount of material per pound of fuel. The quiet, roomy cab
features tilt steering and infinitely adjustable seat and arm rests.

Articulated
boomlifts
UpRight introduces the TL37
and TL49K trailers, which are 43-foot and 55-foot working-height
articulated boomlifts. The TL37 is light with a stable in-line boom and
features hydraulic outriggers, jib and powered cage rotation as
standard. The TL49K features heavy-duty booms and, according to the
company, is easy to maintain. The unit also offers a variety of power
options, including bi-energy.

Telescopic
boomlift
JLG’s Model 150HAX features one
of the highest working heights, and longest outreach and up-and-over
heights of almost any self-propelled articulating telescopic boomlift.
It has a platform height of 150 feet with an up-and-over height of 79.9
feet, a horizontal outreach of 79.25 feet, and a restricted platform
capacity of 1,000 pounds. Other standard features include 165-degree
platform rotation and full-time four-wheel drive.

Hydraulic
telescopic crane
Stellar Industries
introduces the EC3200 electric/hydraulic telescopic crane to its crane
series. The EC3200 has an 11,500-foot-pound rating, and has a lifting
capacity of 3,200 pounds. The crane features 15 feet of reach along with
less than 8 feet of stowed length. The lightweight unit also has a low
stow height of 24 inches, and a mounting configuration allowing it to be
mounted on a unit with 20- or 14-inch-deep compartments.

Power Tools
Hammers
DeWalt introduces a new line of
heavy-duty 1-inch corded SDS hammers that includes a single-mode,
pistol-grip hammer — the D25111K. The line of 1-inch corded SDS
hammers provides improved durability that enables them to withstand
significant wear and tear on jobsites. A new steel clutch has been added
to provide end users with up to 10 times the lifespan of the older
clutch models as well as a higher trip torque, with the ability to drill
core bits up to 2½-inches diameter.

Rotary
hammer
Milwaukee Electric
Tool introduces the 7/8-inch compact SDS rotary hammer, which is
powered by Milwaukee’s V18 lithium-ion technology. With three modes of
operation — rotary hammer, drill only and chipping — operators can
use the tool for concrete drilling, wood and steel drilling, and light
chiseling applications. The unit delivers 4,500 bpm and 9,450
foot-pounds of impact energy. Its L-shape design positions the
operator’s hand directly behind the drill bit for optimal balance with
maximum control and the non-slip soft grip handle helps to reduce
vibration and fatigue.

Hammer
drill/driver
Hilti introduces the SFH
144-A 14-volt CPC hammer drill/driver, which features Hilti’s cordless
power care (CPC) lithium-ion battery technology. The tool’s
high-torque motor provides up to 609 inch-pounds of torque and can
deliver up to 34,200 bpm in masonry block. According to the company,
this performance is due to the 100-percent all-metal gears and the
drop-resistant glass-fiber reinforced casing that provides protection
against tough jobsite conditions.

Concrete Equipment
Concrete
chain saw
The 680GC chain saw from ICS
Blount features increased airflow and a computerized ignition system
that together reduce engine-operating temperature by 100 degrees.
Altitude-friendly carburetion, stronger starter components and a
decomposition valve have also been engineered into the 80 cc, 5.7-hp
saw. The 680GC is available with either a 12- or 14-inch guidebar. ICS
also introduces the RentMAX diamond chain aimed exclusively at the
rental market. The low-cost RentMAX offers double bumpers that protect
diamond segments, smooth cutting and simple installation. Patented
SealPRO technology is incorporated to minimize stretch, which means
fewer adjustments made on the jobsite. The diamond chain offers chain
life up to 60 linear feet in 6-inch concrete (depending on user
experience, amount of reinforcement and composition of the aggregate).
ICS concrete chain saws also offer the ability to cut square openings as
small as 3½ inches with no overcuts, as well as plunge cuts as deep as
24 inches.

Hydraulic
breaker attachments
Bobcat introduces the HB280
(pictured) and HB2380 hydraulic breaker attachments. Available for use
only with the Bobcat 316 compact excavator, the HB280 is in the
60-foot-pounds impact energy class and has a CIMA rating of 59 foot
pounds. The HB2380 is approved for use on Bobcat large-frame loaders and
the 442 ZTS compact excavator. The HB280 weighs 127 pounds and provides
1,120 to 1,290 blows per minute through a hydraulic flow of 3.4 to 6.1
gpm. With a hydraulic flow range of 19.8 to 33 gpm, the HB2380 provides
600 to 950 blows per minute and has a CIMA rating of 700 foot pounds.

Atlas
Copco Delivers Hydraulic Breakers to Kamchatka
ZAO KGD, an extraction company in the Far East, recently ordered an
Atlas Copco hydraulic
breaker HB 5800 Dust. After a long journey the machine finally operates
with full capacity in an open pit significantly named “Icy.”
After more than 50 years a military area, Kamchatka, the biggest
peninsula of East Asia, is no longer restricted for visitors. But still
it is an inhospitable, but picturesque, landscape — with temperatures
below zero and severe storms most of the time. The area is also known as
“the place where all winds come from.”
The company management of ZAO KGD depends on continuous development of
any work process, to produce about 3 tons of platinum annually. In order
to improve quarrying engineering methods, they exchange views with
construction tool manufacturers to find solutions. Atlas Copco CTO
suggested that working with a hydraulic breaker could be suited for
primary breaking at the “Icy” pit.
That’s when the HB 5800 Dust went on its passage to Kamchatka. A tight
agenda for the delivery was organized to avoid the periods of snow or
slush, which would let the breaker’s transport freeze. By train, by
sea and finally by a special off-road crawler the breaker reached its
destination. But not just the breaker. Also a team of CTO service
engineers found its way to the “Icy” pit to ensure the equipment’s
start-up. It took two flights, a cruise, a helicopter trip and nine
hours off-road on a military crawler for them to arrive.
“But these efforts were worthwhile,” as Leonid Polumiskov, ZAO KGD
representative points out. “After several months of running the Atlas
Copco breaker we can see day by day that we made a right choice. The
excellent operating performance and high breaking power of the HB 5800
Dust clearly improves our productivity.”
