Compact wheel loaders
A new line of articulated compact wheel loaders from Wacker are
designed to deliver increased performance and are being positioned as an
alternative to skid-steer loaders in the landscape, rental and
contractor markets. The units feature a tight 45-degree articulation
leading to a tight turning radius that provides increased
maneuverability. The WL 18, WL 25 and WL 30 (pictured) compact loaders
feature operating weights of 1.8, 2.5 and 3 metric-tons respectively.
Featuring a ROPS or canopy work platform, the WL 18 can travel at speeds
up to 9.5 mph. The WL 25 features a fully articulated tipping capacity
of more than 2,950 pounds when using the standard 0.46 cubic yard
bucket. The WL 30 compact wheel loader features a straight load capacity
of 4,437 pounds and is powered by a 4-cylinder, 48-hp Perkins diesel
engine. All three of the wheel loaders are operator-friendly with roomy
operator's platform cabs, ergonomically placed controls and 360-degree
views from higher work platforms.

Compact excavators
Gehl introduces the 283Z
zero-tail-swing compact excavator featuring zero-tail-swing
maneuverability, which allows the machine's superstructure to rotate
entirely within the tracks. The 2.8-ton 283Z can operate close to walls
and obstructions without risk of contact. The unit weighs 5,681 pounds
with a canopy and 5,886 pounds with a cab. The size of the operator's
compartment is maximized by mounting the 20.4-hp Yanmar diesel engine on
the side of the machine, and the hydraulic and fuel tanks on the rear of
the machine. Cabs come standard with heater/defroster, interior light,
windshield wiper, windshield washer system and the ability to open the
cab windows for natural ventilation.

Compact track loaders
Mustang Manufacturing has
upgraded its air conditioning/heater system to create an optional
pressurized cab for each of its three current compact track loader
models -- MTL16, MTL20 and MTL25. This new feature is designed to
virtually eliminate the entry of dust, dirt and debris. Noise is also
kept at a minimum. The Generation II air-conditioning/heater included in
the cab option is comprised of updated interior ducting, featuring six
adjustable louvers allowing the operator to control the amount and
direction of the air flow. Dual, outside air intakes, working in
conjunction with inside recirculation filters, minimize the dust and
dirt, which keeps clean air flowing to the operator.

Compressors
Air compressor
Ingersoll Rand releases a
revision to its XHP1170FCAT air compressor, which delivers the same
power in a smaller footprint. The new model is less than 13 feet in
length while the previous model was 15 feet, 4 inches in length. It
provides a free air delivery of 1,170 cubic feet per minute. Options
available on the XHP1170FCAT include a spark arrestor, battery, day fuel
tank and frame isolators.

Concrete Equipment
Concrete and asphalt saw
The Edco DS-18 concrete and
asphalt saw comes equipped with either a 13-hp gasoline engine or a 5-hp
electric motor. The saw also features a heavy-duty, anti-vibration
engine mount; a 7-gauge, solid-steel frame; and 18-inch blade capacity
with dual-arbor cutting along with lifting handles. The DS-18 offers
perfect balance, which is key to performance, long blade life, smooth
cuts and eliminates excessive wear and tear, according to the
manufacturer.

Walk-behind power trowels
The 4-blade B Series (pictured) and J Series walk-behind power
trowels from MQ/Whiteman, a division of Multiquip, feature more powerful
engines to generate improved rotor speeds of between 60 to 155 rpm for
smoother finishes. The four B Series models, with 46-inch ring
diameters, and six J Series models, with 36-inch diameters, also feature
an ergonomic throttle control, lifting bail, and rugged spider assembly
for extended life. The trowels also include a height-adjustable 2-inch
diameter tubular-steel handle for improved operation comfort and
workability.

Other Products
Circuit board technology
Miller Electric's patented
Vault technology protects the electronics -- and controlling output --
of a machine in heavy industrial applications by providing a clean
circuit board environment. Created out of two aluminum halves sealed
with silicone, as well as a water-tight harness for connections, this
technology hermetically seals the circuit board and is impenetrable to
dirt, dust and moisture. Without the sealed environment, circuit boards
are exposed to harsh elements that can disrupt the electronics, and
therefore the operation of a welder/generator. Based on warranty claims
versus number of products sold with the new Vault technology, Miller's
Big Blue CC/CV welder generator shows a 98.8-percent reliability rating
(January 2006 to the present), while the Pro 300 has a 98.1 percent
rating (June 2006 to the present).

Laser distance meter
The Leica Geosystems
Disto D3 laser distance meter is a multi-functional instrument that
ensures quick and reliable measurements. The tool measures distances of
up to 325 feet within 1/16-inch. The instrument's built-in tilt sensor
quickly determines tilts up to 45 degrees. The tilt sensor can also
provide the user with horizontal distances.

Grove GTK1100 debuts on wind
power site in Germany
Manitowoc's
Grove GTK1100 crane has completed its inaugural lift series at a jobsite
in Germany. The distinctive crane, with its unique design and
transportation abilities, first appeared at the Bauma 2007 tradeshow in
Munich, Germany. Following further tests at Manitowoc's Wilhelmshaven
factory in Germany, the first unit went to work in December 2007 for
owner Wiesbauer.
Jochen Wiesbauer, managing director of Wiesbauer, said the crane had
lived up to all expectations.
"Because these lifts were the first in a field setting we took extra
caution and double-checked everything," said Wiesbauer. "But even with
this, the cost and time savings compared to other lift solutions were
exceptional."
The GTK1100's first job was in Ilshofen, Baden WÃ 1/4rtembergin the
southern part of Germany. Energy provider Repower Systems is installing
a 2 kW wind turbine at the location and selected the GTK for an initial
project.
Efficient transport is a key benefit of the GTK1100. The crane is
designed to travel on only four or five trailers depending on its
configuration and local road regulations. For the Baden WÃ
1/4rtemberg job the crane required only four trailers as there was no
counterweight required for the lifting configuration.
The GTK1100 completed five lifts on the jobsite. The first three were
the wind turbine tower mast sections that weighed 68.3 tons, 58.4 tons
and 49.6 tons. Next, was the installation of the heaviest element, the
nacelle, which weighed 77.1 tons. Finally, the crane positioned the
three rotor blades (each weighing 8.8 tons) which were assembled on the
ground before being lifted as a single 46.3-ton load.
Among those present at the GTK1100's first lift was Frans Vanwinkel,
senior vice president of sales and marketing for Manitowoc in EMEA. He
said those who saw the crane perform got an understanding of its true
benefits.
"The crane worked perfectly on this job and the erection and dismantling
was fast and smooth," he said. "Unlike traditional lifting solutions on
projects such as these, the GTK allowed Repower Systems to save on
ground preparation costs. These savings come through a combination of
reduced space requirement on site and greater stability on uneven ground
because of the GTK's advanced outrigger design."
Manitowoc welcomed several dozen potential customers to the site while
the lifts were taking place. Vanwinkel said this was a perfect
opportunity to highlight its capabilities.
"We invited customers and potential customers from Asia, North America,
South America and Europe to this job," he said. "Seeing the GTK in
action, on site, really opened a lot of people's eyes to its full
capabilities."
The GTK1100 has a 251-foot vertical tower which is topped with a
five-section 196.9-foot telescopic boom. It is able to lift loads of
more than 77.1 tons to heights of over 393.7 feet.
