Earth-Moving
Compact excavator
With many improvements, the new John Deere 17D compact excavator
provides maximum versatility and productivity. Chief among its
enhancements are adjustable-width tracks and a backfill blade with
foldable end sections. When the tracks are retracted and the blades' end
sections folded, the machine fits through a 40-inch opening. When fully
extended to over 50 inches, the undercarriage provides maximum stability
for operation. The standard mechanical quick coupler/hydraulic
attachment package allows for many jobsite possibilities.

Trencher
Barreto Manufacturing will
launch a new steerable trencher this month at The Rental Show. The 1324
ST offers zero-radius turning capability for superb maneuverability. The
1324 can turn corners in a single move, requiring less effort by the
operator when trenching for sprinkler grids and other underground
installations.

Wheel loader
Case Construction Equipment has
upgraded the 921E wheel loader to join its E series line, with an
electronically controlled engine to increase efficiency, a more
comfortable cab with enhanced visibility and easier maintenance. The
wheel loader delivers a larger payload of 5.75 cubic yards. Access has
been improved to fluid-level sight gauges, centralized grease fittings
and all checks can be made from ground level. A one-piece electric lift
hood replaces six access panels. The Tier 3-certified engine
incorporates the new common-rail fuel-injection system, which allows air
and fuel to mix in nearly equal proportions for a cleaner burn.
Operators can choose between three power curves -- max, standard and
economy power -- and four work modes -- max, standard, economy and
auto. At max performance, the six-cylinder engine offers 297 net hp.

For Contractors
Concrete slab buster
The Allied Hammerhead II from Allied Construction Products is a
self-contained hydraulic concrete slab buster designed to demolish
concrete flatwork. The concrete is rubblized at a 45-degree angle from
the point of impact. This concrete flatwork includes floors, driveways,
bridge decks and roadways up to 12 inches thick. Utilizing only three
moving parts, the Hammerhead II offers a simple, rugged design that
minimizes maintenance and repair costs. The Allied Hammerhead II Model
HB 550 is a 1,130-pound hydraulic concrete slab buster that mounts
easily on a 5,000- to 9,000-pound skid-steer loader, 7,000- to
15,000-pound mini-excavator or 9,000- to 16,500-pound loader/backhoe.

Chain-sharpening machine
Stens is the North American
distributor of the Franzen chain-sharpening machine, which is designed
to perfectly sharpen saw chain within .100 of an inch. Since it is
automated, the machine corrects depth gauge and sharpens cutting teeth
in one precise, uniform operation. The Franzen reduces the time it takes
to sharpen chain by 50 percent, requiring just four minutes to sharpen a
standard chain. At 290 pounds, it is 25 inches wide, 75 inches tall and
runs off 110V and 90 psi of air. The machine is designed for virtually
unlimited applications, is maintenance free and easy to use, and comes
with a limited lifetime warranty.

Pump
Moving Water Industries (MWI)
introduces the newest addition to its lineup -- The Silent Partner.
Pictured is the high-performance, automatic-priming, run-dry PrimeRite
pump with the specially designed, sound attenuation enclosure. These
units are suited for residential areas, near hospitals, government
buildings or schools and wherever else quiet operations are required.
The design of the Silent Partner is optimized for pumps that are run
hard in difficult environments. The heavy-duty Silent Partner is
engineered to be quiet, run cool and provide easy access to all
components.

Equipment monitoring
system
DPL America introduces the
Titan equipment monitoring system for mobile, off-road equipment. The
Titan is an advanced solution for remote monitoring and tracking of
off-road assets to increase asset profitability and productivity while
decreasing the costs and risk of equipment theft. Features include
automatic and on-demand location updates, remote starter and disable
capabilities, real-time updates of machine on/off/in-transit status,
hour meter reporting with daily run-time log, service scheduling with
past-due notices and digital inputs for sensor alarming. The Titan
equipment monitoring system allows managers to track their assets
continuously and accurately from an Internet-based software package.
Once covertly installed on the piece of equipment, the Titan hardware
unit wirelessly reports the machine's activity, location, status and
other operational data to the software. The system communicates over the
GPRS network, which is North America's largest pure digital data
network, the company says.

Zero-turn mowers
Kubota introduces the ZD-300
Series of zero-turn commercial mowers that includes five models
featuring Kubota diesel engines. Each model comes equipped with dual
fuel tanks to total 11.9 gallons of fuel capacity, which means fewer
stops for refueling. The mowers feature high-capacity transmission
systems and deep mower decks. For routine maintenance, Kubota's two-pin,
tilt-up feature allows the front of the mower to be raised without
removing the mid-mount mower, and includes locks for the front tires to
ensure safety.

Augers
Ideal introduces the
Resi-Master line of ship augers, precision-machined to provide faster
drilling action with fewer jams, according to the manufacturer.
Available in lengths of 7 1/2 and 18 inches, the augers are designed for
homebuilders, electricians and construction contractors. The auger is
constructed from high-quality steel, and its hardened lead screw and
cutting edge are designed to reduce re-sharpening in soft or hard woods,
heavy green wood and treated wood. The augers have a 62-degree cutting
angle that provides reinforcement for the cutting edge, reducing wear
while providing smooth and accurate drilling action.
