Earth-Moving
Compact excavator
The Takeuchi TB153FR
zero-swing compact excavator features a patented side-to-side offset
boom system to give the operator the ability to slew 360 degrees within
inches of the machine width. The STS boom design coupled with a low
machine center of gravity provides the digging speed, stability, power
and visibility found in Takeuchi's conventional excavators. In addition,
an interference prevention system controls the boom's range of motion to
prevent the bucket from contacting the operator's station.

Compact utility loader
Featuring increased horsepower, enhanced ground-to-track contact
for maximum ground-engaging power and low ground pressure, the Toro Dingo TX 425 wide-track compact
utility loader is designed to handle a variety of landscapes and
difficult-to-navigate terrain. Powered by a 25-hp, air-cooled Kohler
Command Pro Series engine, the Dingo TX 425 offers more than 35
quick-change attachments including auger, trencher, vibratory plow,
hydraulic breaker, backhoe, leveler, tiller, cultivator, tree forks,
two-stage snowthrower and several sizes of buckets. A four-pump,
independent hydraulic system allows the operator to direct power where
and when it is needed.

Lifting
Telescopic boom
Designed to offer some of the highest load capacities in the
industry, the platform on Genie's
new S-60 HC telescopic boom is rated for 750 pounds, 50-percent more
capacity throughout the entire working envelope. It also supports
platform loads up to 1,250 pounds, 25-percent more load capacity in the
maximum capacity zone. The S-60 is well suited for mechanical
contractors, glazers, brick layers and others looking to move higher
loads and up to three people into and out of hard-to-reach areas.

Telescopic tool carrier
The V723 VersaHandler telescopic tool carrier from Bobcat provides up to 23 feet of lift
height and a 7,000-pound maximum load capacity, making it a suitable
machine for transporting and lifting building materials, landscaping
supplies, placing trusses, handling waste and piling snow.
Lester Sterken, a dairy farmer in Wisconsin, uses the V723 to load
silage into trucks with high sides. "I could hardly load them with the
end loader, but now I can dump right into them with the V723." He also
uses the V723 to stack hay bales higher than he could before.

For Contractors
Vibratory roller
The Bomag BW100AD-4
tandem ride-on vibratory roller offers large roller performance and
productivity in a compact frame. The roller is powered by a 33.7-hp,
3-cylinder water-cooled Kubota diesel engine and has an operating weight
of 5,291 pounds with 39.4-inch wide drums. The unit has a frequency of
4,200 vibrations per minute, a 6-percent increase over the previous
model. It also offers a performance increase of 15-percent over the
model it replaces and produces up to 8,550 pounds of centrifugal force
per drum.

Compressor
DeWalt's gas wheeled portable
compressor, the D55273, offers a new pump with increased air delivery
and maximum pressure, allowing more users to work from the same
compressor. The heavy-duty, 5.5-hp 10.5-gallon compressor also offers a
unique cooling system that extends pump life. Additionally, an
innovative roll cage/tank/handle design and two non-flat tires that give
the unit rugged protection and improved mobility on the jobsite.

For Homeowners/Light Contractors
Impact drivers
Hitachi Power Tools'
WH12DAF2 and WH14DAF2 impact drivers produce no-load speeds of up to
2,500 rpm and impacts per minute of up to 2,900. Equipped with two
high-capacity 1.4 Ah batteries each, the tools can run longer with fewer
charges. A new quick charger recharges the batteries in 30 minutes. The
electronic feedback power control switch saves time and effort by
providing equal torque and rpm in both forward and reverse.

Street sweeper
The Allianz MS/MT350
truck-mounted mechanical street sweeper is available in single or twin
engine and has a 60-gallon fuel system. The sweeper features a direct
hydraulic broom drive and a variable height debris dumping system. The
hopper has a capacity of 4.5 cubic yards.

Circular saw
Makita's 8 1/4-inch circular
saw has a 2-7/8-inch cutting capacity for larger wood-cutting
applications. Two LED lights illuminate the line of cut for increased
accuracy. The light is built into the tool housing so it doesn't
obstruct vision or interfere with the line of cut. A separate on/off
switch for the light is located on the tool body for easy activation.

Tower Crane Assists Chernobyl
Wall Reinforcement
A Potain
MD 3200 tower crane is the key lifting apparatus in use for the
reinforcement of a collapsing wall at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant
in the town of Pripyat, Ukraine. The special application crane is being
used to reinforce the existing wall and roof of Nuclear Reactor Number
4, the location of a major accident 20 years ago. Two large beams have
been supporting the roof of the building but are resting on the
structurally unsound west wall of Reactor 4. The MD 3200 lifts steel
elements to reinforce the wall.
On-site contractor and owner of the MD 3200 is UTEM, based in the
Ukrainian capital, Kiev. The company's crane operators are located 328
feet from the reactor and operate the crane by remote control from an
anti-radiation shelter. A number of cameras attached to the crane allow
the operators to monitor all lifting operations, while feedback screens
show the precise position of the load. The MD 3200 can travel to and
from the power plant wall on a 49-foot-wide, 328-foot-long track.
The MD 3200 can handle a maximum load of 88 U.S. tons when rigged with
six falls of wire rope. The MD 3200 is fitted with 230 feet of jib and
it can handle 43 tons at its jib end. It has a height under hook of 236
feet and is equipped with a 250 LCC 133 hoisting winch.
Gerard Vezant, sales director for special application cranes at MCG,
said Potain's special application cranes were the perfect choice for
this sensitive project.
"To operate a tower crane of this size, from a remote location, and on
such a sensitive project requires incredibly close control, both on the
part of the operator and the crane," he says. "The planning on this job
has been particularly involved, which is understandable given the
location. However, the MD 3200, together with the highly skilled team
from UTEM, has performed brilliantly. This project is a real showcase
for the engineering excellence of Potain and the talents of the UTEM
engineers."
Work began at the plant in June and will finish in December 2006. The
Chernobyl Power Station is 68 miles north of Kiev. The present concrete
containment covering, called a sarcophagus, is not an effective
permanent enclosure for the destroyed Reactor 4. Eventually, the plant
will be covered with a new sarcophagus.
