Earth-Moving
Dumper
The PS6-AWS dumper from Terex features a unique chassis that allows the body of the bed to rotate 90 degrees on either side. The rotating design enables the operator to unload from the side while keeping the chassis straight. Using a power shuttle 4-speed transmission with four speeds forward and four speeds reverse, the dumper has a travel speed of 17 mph. It offers a turning circle of 25 feet and a payload capacity of 13,300 pounds. The 4-cylinder Perkins 1100 Series diesel engine is rated at 80 hp.

Bucket
McLaren Industries' Dig-&-Grab heavy-duty digging bucket with grapple attachment is designed for use with skid-steer and track loaders. The attachment combines the loading and leveling functions of a standard bucket with the grabbing abilities of a grapple. The Dig-&-Grab can transport brush, woodchips, straw, logs, rocks and demolition debris. Because the bucket features a closed-bottom design, it can be used to carry finer materials including dirt and compost. A cylinder opens the four heavy-duty grapple arms up to 35 inches wide. The bucket is 20 inches deep and is available in 66-, 72- and 78-inch widths.

Lifting
Outriggers
The new SuperLink outriggers from Elliott Equipment were designed to meet customers' needs for a set of A frame outriggers that could be extended on one side and dropped vertically on the other, allowing users to work in confined spaces. The outriggers allow the user to get full penetration on the extended side and the non-extended side. Operators are locked out from rotating to the non-extended side by a proximity switch. This allows users to work in areas as narrow as 15 feet wide and still get full penetration from a set of A outriggers.

Telehandler
Genie's GTH-844 high-reach rough-terrain telehandler has a maximum lift capacity of 8,000 pounds and a maximum lift height of 44 feet. A three-speed forward and reverse powershift transmission increases operator productivity. The machine features power-assisted steering, fully hydraulic proportional boom controls and a multi-function joystick controller. The GTH-844 also features a 99-hp John Deere turbocharged diesel engine and a fully enclosed cab.

For Contractors
Compressor
GrimmerSchmidt's 185E MonoBlock compressor features electronic fuel injection, timing and ignition, and is designed to start in cold weather without using starting aids, down to negative 20 degrees. Weighing in at 1,500 pounds without options, the 185E features a high visibility safety yellow, no-rust plastic hood. Other features include a combination ball/pintle hitch, a separate lockable tool storage area and stop tail and turn lights.

Power cutter
The Partner K750 power cutter features an improved three-stage active air filtration system that filters fine dust and grit. The dual charge technology is designed to reduce emissions by up to 70 percent. The air intake system can be removed from the cutter as an integrated module, which is especially important to users who service tools in the field. A newly designed 5-hp engine is mounted at an angle on the saw frame. The slanted configuration permits a more concentrated fuel mixture, which improves lubrication of the bearings and cylinder barrel.

David Brimmel, light equipment manager for Leander, Texas-based JC Evans Construction Co., says design features on the saws make them easier to use and maintain. "They are reliable and affordable, so we plan to keep on using them," he says. "From the procurement side, we get a good ROI."

Pumps
Magnum's new self-priming trash pumps are available in 4- and 6-inch models, and handle up to 3-inch diameter solids. The pumps have flow capacities up to 1,550 gpm and up to 145 feet total dynamic head. The stainless-steel drive shaft ensures the life of the pump against rust invasion along with removable steel plates with stainless hardware that are externally adjustable. Diesel-powered John Deere engines power the new self-priming pump models.

    Product Spotlight
    Crane Overcomes Jobsite Challenges
A Potain Igo MA21 self-erecting crane has proven instrumental in overcoming jobsite challenges during the renovation of a high school in Elkton, Md.

Masonry subcontractor Joseph Rizzo & Sons, New Castle, Del., had originally anticipated a straight-forward plan to build a cement block addition to the school. However, the existing structure blocked access to two of the addition's walls limiting the contractor's ability to deliver bundles of cement block to workers. In addition, the general contractor would not allow any type of equipment onto the addition's cement slab foundation. This ruled out the option of using rough-terrain forklifts or other material-handling equipment to deliver the bricks.

With nearly 63 feet of height under hook and an 85-foot radius, the Igo MA21 provided the necessary reach to access the entire jobsite. With its small footprint, the self-erector did not take up too much space on the crowded site.

According to Kevin O'Connell, self-erecting crane product manager for local Potain dealer Shawmut Equipment, there are many benefits that made this crane a perfect fit for the job.

"School was still in session during construction of the addition, so the crane's electric drives allowed for quiet operation," he says. Because the Igo MA21 can be operated with 220-volt, single-phase power, the contractor tapped into an existing power source on the site, eliminating the need and expense for a three-phase generator. The Igo MA21 only took about an hour and a half to position, erect, and complete its required checkouts.

The radio control feature of the Igo MA21 was also beneficial on the job -- particularly for delivering brick bundles to masons working on scaffolding. The radio control allowed the crane operator to stay with the load the entire time to position the bricks exactly where they needed to be.

"Even with picks that traditionally would have been blind with a hydraulic crane, the operator was able to reposition himself and stay with the load at all times," O'Connell says.
