Trencher
The T6B trencher from Caterpillar has a 36-inch boom for
applications that don't require the greater digging depth of other Cat
trenchers. The T6B is designed to work with standard flow hydraulics.
The direct-drive motor provides a balance of chain speed, torque and
chain pull for maximum productivity in a variety of soil types. Cutting
widths offered by the adjustable boom are 6, 8, 10 and 12 inches. The
T6B offers optional manual or hydraulic side shift for close trenching
near structures. Maximum side shift is 22 inches to the right of center.
A large, adjustable auger handles spoil removal, and an optional,
bolt-on crumber bar guides loose spoil away from the trench. Two
optional skid shoes can aid in cleaning the trench.

For Contractors
Pump
The PA6C60-4045D-ESP priming assisted silent pump offers pumping
capacities to 2,360 gpm and head to 156 feet. It handles 3-inch diameter
spherical solids. All Prime Aire pumps feature Gorman-Rupp's patented priming
system, which uses a venture and compressor, eliminating the leaks
associated with traditional vacuum-assisted pumps. An oversized,
oil-lubricated mechanical seal allows the pump to run dry continuously
without damage. The lightweight aluminum acoustically treated enclosure
offers corrosion resistance and reduced sound levels below industry
standards -- as low as 63 dBa under full load. The pump is designed
for use on sewer by-pass applications in residential areas or any sound
sensitive area.

Roller
Sakai's R2H balanced
3-wheel roller blends the benefits of 3-wheel and tandem rollers into a
new machine. The unit incorporates three equal diameter drums, which
means equal force per linear inch across the compaction width. The R2H
develops 365 pounds of force per linear inch across its 83-inch rolling
width.

Sweeper
Madvac's CN100 sub-compact
sweeper is built to sweep and vacuum a variety of surfaces from city
sidewalks and walkways to alleys, indoor and outdoor parking lots, bike
paths, streets and more. The CN100 features a 40-gallon polyethylene
water tank, a variable 44- to 89-inch sweep path for cleaning of tight
and wide areas, and a three-stage dust filtering system. The sweeper
travels up to 16 mph on the road.

Generator
Mi-T-M expands its generator line
to include a 3,000-watt extended-run generator for the rental and
construction industries. The unit features a Honda OHV engine with
low-oil shutdown to protect against engine problems. The roll cage
design incorporates the engineering department's new isolator design,
which absorbs vibration that occurs during use. A 2.6-gallon fuel tank
capacity allows for 7.4 hours of run time at a full load, saving the
operator time spent refueling.
Low-profile engines and low-tone muffler systems keep noise levels down,
according to Mike Budde, rental sales representative for Mi-T-M. "Our
wheel kit uses pneumatic tires for easy maneuverability, even when used
on the roughest jobsite terrain," Budde says. "The handle design
recesses back when not in use to allow for additional storage and floor
space."

For Homeowners/Light Contractors
Rake
Barreto Manufacturing's
grader rake is designed to take the place of the aluminum rake. Instead
of bending, the user's back and arms remain straight as the rake is
pulled using leg strength. Its compact size allows it to fit where
larger machines can't. The rake can be used for finish grading,
backfilling, spreading gravel and more. Eurathane tires are designed for
easy maneuvering.

Pressure washers
The Pressure-Pro Eagle
3-V belt drive pressure washers feature triplex plunger pumps by AR, Cat
or General Pump. Designed for extreme reliability, the 3-V redundant
belts place less stress on the crankshaft, extend pump life and create
less friction. Extended duty in the field, minimum service and
preventive maintenance are realized as a result. Eagle belt-drive units
feature adjustable pressure up to 4,000 psi at 4 gpm. The lightweight
aluminum frame is rustproof and chemical resistant and a 13-hp Honda
engine with low oil shutoff and accessories are standard.

Aerator
The SourceOne Plugr PL410
aerator is designed to be lightweight and easy to maneuver. The unit has
a 22-inch aeration width and cam-powered tine that punch deep holes into
the soil with no add-on weights or water drums. With a wide base and
four wheels for stability, the Plugr can maneuver curves and slopes.
Tines disengage with a hand lever to skip over sprinkler heads and
sidewalks. Engine options include a 5.5-hp Briggs & Stratton Intek OHV
or 4-hp Honda OHV.

Lifting Gear Hire Assists Bridge
Project
Washington State commuters will find relief on the road beginning
in the summer of 2007, thanks to the bridge-building efforts of Tacoma
Narrows Constructors and the tools of Lifting Gear Hire Corporation. Tacoma
Narrows Constructors has been using Lifting Gear Hire Corporation's
electric winches and come-a-longs to erect a new suspension bridge,
which is being built parallel to and south of the existing 1950s Narrows
Bridge on State Route 16. The new bridge will help alleviate congestion,
improve driver conformability and increase safety for drivers as they
travel along the State Route 16 corridor. Currently, 85,000 to 90,000
vehicles use the corridor on a daily basis, but the bridge is only
designed to handle approximately 60,000 per day. Officials estimate that
the use of the freeway will increase to 120,000 vehicles per day by
2020, which prompted the building of the additional bridge.
According to Tony Fiscelli, general manager of Bridgeview, Ill.-based
Lifting Gear Hire, the electric winches are being used to inch large
gantries along giant spun cables that support a 710,000-pound I-Beam on
the new bridge. "A giant barge carries all of the deck sections to the
place where they will be erected on the bridge," Fiscelli says. "Strand
jacks are being used to lift the bridge deck pieces from these barges
into their final location on the main cable. Our come-a-longs are then
used to inch the deck plates closer before they are settled into their
final positions."
According to Erin Hunter of Tacoma Narrows Constructors, the new bridge
will give eastbound commuters two general-purpose lanes, an HOV lane,
and a "drop" lane by summer 2007. In summer 2008, both new and existing
bridges will be open in their final form and will allow the existing
bridge to handle westbound traffic on two general purpose lanes with one
carpool lane, and the new bridge to handle eastbound traffic with two
general purpose lanes, one HOV lane and a fourth "drop" lane, beginning
at the 24th Street eastbound on-ramp in Gig Harbor and ending at the
Jackson Street off-ramp in Tacoma.
The first Tacoma Narrows Bridge opened on July 1, 1940, only to collapse
in a windstorm several months later on November 7, 1940. "Galloping
Gertie," as the bridge was known, became famous as the most dramatic
failure in bridge engineering history. A new and much safer Tacoma
Narrows Bridge opened on Oct. 14, 1950, and is the fifth longest
suspension bridge in the United States.
Lifting Gear Hire Corporation, a subsidiary of Lifting Gear Hire Group
plc, specializes in the rental, sales, service, inspection and testing
of lifting and winching equipment.
