Schneider Electric To Buy Largest Supplier of Solar Inverters
Xantrex, the largest supplier of solar inverters to the North American market, recently announced that it is to be sold to Schneider Electric for approximately $500 million. This acquisition comes only a year after Schneider Electric purchased American Power Conversion (APC) to form the world’s largest supplier of uninterruptible power supplies (under the name APC-MGE).

In 2007, IMS Research ranked Vancouver-based Xantrex as one of the top five largest suppliers of solar inverters worldwide and the largest supplier to the Americas market.

This acquisition is reported to be one of many in future, as other suppliers look to enter this exploding market. According to latest research from IMS Research, the global solar inverter market is forecast to grow to more than $2 billion by 2010, driven by government financial incentives and growing global concerns over global warming and energy security.

PEARL’s Low-Voltage Apparatus Recycling Standards cover Low-Voltage Disconnect Switches (1100 PEARL Standard Series), Low-Voltage Circuit Breakers (1200 PEARL Standard Series), Low-Voltage Panelboards, Switchboards & Switchgear (1300 PEARL Standard Series), Low-Voltage Transformers (1400 PEARL Standard Series), Low-Voltage Motor Control Center Buckets & Assemblies (1500 PEARL Standard Series), Low-Voltage Motor Control Devices (1600 PEARL Standard Series), Low-Voltage Wire & Cable (4100 PEARL Standard Series), and Low-Voltage Bus Duct (4300 PEARL Standard Series).

PEARL’s Low-Voltage Apparatus Recycling Standards are available for free to the public from the PEARL website (www.pearl1.org).

Founded in 1997, PEARL is an electrical apparatus recycling trade association that creates, collects, and disseminates information, policies, procedures, and standards to ensure the proper recycling and reuse of electrical power equipment.

Texas Approves Massive Wind-Power Project
A recent article in the New York Times reported that Texas regulators have approved a $4.93 billion wind-power transmission project, which includes transmission lines that will carry 18.5MW of power from remote parts of the state to major population centers like Dallas, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. They are scheduled for completion by 2013.

Transmission companies will pay for the upfront costs of the project and will recoup the money from power users at a rate of about $4 a month for residential customers.

Texas is already the largest producer of wind power, with 5.3MW of installed power, more than double the installed capacity of California, the next closest state.
