X64: Porting to the Future
Cakewalk, Intel and Microsoft present a special training event at NAMM
for audio developers interested in porting their software and hardware
to the emerging 64-bit platform.
The event will include specific sessions with guided instruction by
representatives from Microsoft, Intel and Cakewalk on optimizing and
porting applications, plug-ins and hardware drivers for use with Windows
XP Professional x64 Edition.
NAMM attendees are invited to join them at the Hilton Anaheim, Room San
Simeon AB, on Saturday, January 21, 2006, at 8:00 a.m. for breakfast,
with speakers from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Cakewalk SONAR 5
The latest version of Cakewalk's production tool, SONAR 5 adds more
effects, the PSYN II subtractive synth, Perfect Space convolution
reverb, Roland V-Vocal Variphrase vocal editing technology, enhanced
track layers and integrated inline audio and MIDI editing. In addition,
SONAR 5 introduces advances in RAM and native processing power on
systems running Windows XP x64 Edition. SONAR 5's 64-bit audio engine is
accessible on 32-bit computers, but is available in either a 64- or

Radial Engineering SGI
The SGI (Studio Guitar Interface) is a pair of modules that allows a
guitar signal to travel across 300-plus feet of balanced XLR mic cable.
The SGI is a unity gain device that features 100-percent discrete
Class-A circuitry and transformer isolation to eliminate ground loops.
The guitar connects to the SGI-TX, which outputs a balanced signal. The
SGI-RX converts the balanced signal back to a hi-Z instrument level
output that connects to pedal boards and amplifiers. Retail: $200. NAMM

Yamaha MO6 and MO8
Based on technology developed for the Motif ES are two new Yamaha
keyboards: the 61-key synth-action MO6 ($1,499) and the 88-key
hammer-action MO8 ($1,999). Both are 16-part multitimbral workstations
with 64-note polyphony, 512 timbres, 64 drum kits, onboard song and
pattern sequencing, and extensive effects. Performance mode combines as
many as four timbres in layers or splits. The arpeggiator supplies more
than 1,700 sequenced phrases that interact with your keyboard
performance. Both provide templates for working in tandem with computer
software, offering remote control of DAW functions such as track-arming,
