Financial Services Society Gives Back
Disadvantaged youth were the beneficiaries as the Risk
Insurance Management Society and its members engaged in some corporate
social responsibility during the organization’s recent annual meeting
in San Diego.
RIMS donated $10,000 to the Monarch School, which provides accredited
educational programs in a stable environment to homeless and at-risk
youth in the San Diego area. RIMS meeting attendees also took advantage
of a convention center program facilitating volunteer work in local
community improvement efforts.

Shades of Green for Financial and Insurance
Planners
A recent survey of the readers of Financial &
Insurance Meetings suggests that industry planners are personally
committed to green meetings and events, but their companies are slower
to get on board.
Asked if a hotel’s corporate environmental policy plays any role in
their site selection process, 47 percent of respondents said yes—but
they don’t specifically ask about it. Another 47 percent said it does
not play a role. Only 5 percent said that they include green questions
on their requests for proposal.

How To Use APEX as SMMP Tool
It’s not enough to save your company or organization
money, you’ve got to measure and prove every bit of cost savings as
well as cost and risk
avoidance. Learning how to use standardized forms and contract language
can help both planners and suppliers manage the planning process.
Join a senior panel of meeting professionals, including Colleen Logan
Brennan, senior meeting and event planner, KPMG Global Services Centre,
on May 21 at 2 p.m. EDT for a webinar about using APEX--the Accepted
Practices Exchange initiative--as a tool in your strategic meetings
management program. This is the second webinar this year organized by
MeetingsNet in cooperation with the Convention Industry Council.
