With the continued emphasis on homeland security, the U.S.
Fire
Administration will appropriate an estimated $650 million in
the
Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program to aid fire
departments
in purchasing the equipment they need to protect
firefighters and
the citizens they serve. Interoperable communications
equipment, systems and training can be purchased under this
program with
the goal of solving your interoperability problems.
Raytheon JPS Communications is the
leader in interoperability
The ACU 1000 and our other technologies
allow interoperability among various agencies with dissimilar
communications equipment without standardizing or rebuilding
infrastructure. We have over 1,000 units in the field, tested by many
public safety agencies.
For example, The National Institute of Justice's CommTech
Program is dedicated to studying interoperability options and making
valuable information available to law enforcement, firefighters, and
emergency technicians across the country. For an independent evaluation
of the ACU 1000 and TRP 1000, visit CommTech's review.
Let us help you specify the solution for your
interoperability problem, NOW!
We've established a toll free number and grant team to serve
you. Fire Chief Wayne House (Ret) is on call to talk about your
departments needs, talk you through the process of determining an
interoperability system configuration and help find answers to your
grant process questions. Please call or email us.
The Grant Process
The grant application is expected to be accessible from the
FEMA
website from March 7 until April 8, 2005. Completed
applications must be submitted electronically before 5:00 p.m. EST on
the final day of submissions. Any applicant seeking funding for
communications equipment should provide details in the narrative section
of their application regarding their local plan to enable
interoperability for their jurisdiction. You may want to consider
attending one of the grant workshops offered through USFA. For more
information on the workshops, the grant and the application process,
please visit the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program web
site.
