Study Predicts
Future of Structured Cabling Systems Market
In the study "Structured Cabling Systems Market: 2005,"
FTM Consulting, Inc. predicts a resumption of double-digit growth for
the
structured cabling systems market, driven by products for network
congestion and higher speeds at data centers. According to the study,
these products will require fiber cabling, sales of which may exceed
copper cabling by 2008. The study forecasts that fiber cabling
shipments
may grow from $1.2 billion in 2005 to $4 billion by 2010, a growth rate

AWEA Joins Wind
Energy Coalition
The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) recently
announced
the formation of Wind Energy Works, a national coalition of wind energy
advocates. The coalition's mission is to educate the public about the
benefits of wind energy development. Advocacy groups comprising the
coalition include AWEA, Earth Policy Institute, Union of Concerned
Scientists, Wind Power New York, and the Southern Alliance for Clean

Seeks Proposals for a Public Early Warning System
Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University,
Blacksburg, Va., is accepting proposals for installation and testing of
a public early warning system with
two-way radio control and status monitoring to provide coverage for the
local campus. All work, including final acceptance testing, should be
completed and invoiced no later than Oct. 31. All inquiries should be

New York Department of Emergency
Communications Solicits Bids for Integrated Network
The Onondaga County, New York, Department of Emergency
Communications is seeking proposals for an integrated computer-aided
dispatch system, records management system, and mobile data network.
The
preferred proposal is for a single, prime vendor to provide an
integrated suite of products for all three portions of the system.
Proposals including tightly integrated products from multiple vendors
are acceptable, although the prime contractor must assume
responsibility
for the turnkey implementation of the system. The County has engaged L.
Robert Kimball & Associates to assist in the development and evaluation
of the RFP and the project management of the system implementation.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau's "Construction
Spending" report, the total for construction put in place in May was
$1.1 billion, down 0.9% from April's $1.11 billion total. The
value
for new residential construction in May, $614.2 million, was down 1.7%
from April's $624 million value. The May total for new non-residential
construction rang in at $241.9 million, down 1.6% from April's total,
$233.2 million. The totals for the past year have been charted in the
line graph below. All values have been calculated at a seasonally
adjusted annual rate.

Greyson's Law Signed by Ohio
Governor
On June 30, Greyson's Law, named after the 8-year-old
Ohio boy who died after coming in contact with a railing on a bumper
car
ride that was energized at 230V at the Lake County Fair in
Painesville Township in 2003, was signed as a provision to the state
budget by Gov. Bob Taft. The law will raise money for inspections by
tripling permit fees paid by ride owners in Ohio to $150 per ride. It
also requires that any amusement ride operated on electrical power be
installed with a circuit breaker that can automatically shut down if an
electrical surge appears on the line. However, rides will still
be required to be inspected only once a year.
