Be true to your
school
My high school class recently held its 25th reunion.
Although I didn’t attend, I am on the school’s e-mail distribution
list, so I got a link to photos of the event. What a perfect setup —
without actually showing up, I could check up on my fellow graduates.
There was just one hitch — none of the photos were labeled. Using my
imaginary Photoshop “toupee” tool, I tentatively identified a couple
of the guys. I only recognized three or four people, and two of those
were only partial, because I can’t remember their last names.
I was shocked to see how old everyone looked. Surely, time has been
kinder to me! I was cheered as I came upon photos of alumni with far
fewer wrinkles and nary a bald spot in sight. Clearly, these were my
kind of people. I then discovered I had clicked past the last of the
Class of 1983 reunion photos and was now well into admiring the Class of
1998.
Thanks for reading!

Thank you for
your support
Chuck Moozakis, editor of Newspapers &
Technology makes an interesting point in his July 2008 column. The
newspaper market is facing declining ad revenues, fewer pages and
ongoing job cuts. “While publishers are wondering where the bottom may
lie, many of the vendors that support the industry were wondering the
same thing [at Drupa], writes Moozakis. He went on to quote an industry
executive who attended the show: “I have to recognize and applaud the
vendors,” said the source. “Innovation new technology, cost-cutting
and revenue-generating ideas could be found in almost every booth.
[They] didn’t complain about how much it was costing to showcase their
solutions and bring hundreds of employees to the exhibition, but it was
the unspoken elephant in the room.”
The bottom line, says Moozakis, is vendors need your support, perhaps
now more than ever.
I will be at Graph Expo, and I hope to see many of our readers there,
too. The show will take place Oct. 26-29 in Chicago. See

Slick and
quick coating on any offset unit
Aradiant’s (Palmyra, PA) Small Light Independent
Coater (SLIC) converts any offset unit to a flexo unit and back again,
in about 10 minutes. The chambered anilox system reportedly can print
any ink or coating (including metallic materials) that can be applied on
a flexographic press. It can apply opaque whites—one SLIC white is
equal to four white offset films.

“Uploadthingy” is a good way to describe an easy
way for a client to send you files that are up to 1GB on a web site. No
